“If
you do not have a clear sense of the key dimensions of sound performance- a
vision of poor and outstanding performance- you can neither teach students to
perform nor evaluate their performance.”- Richard Stiggins
In
the quote above, it shows how important it is to have a rating scale or a
scoring scheme in measuring the quality of a performance. It lists down the
aspects which will evaluate student’s progress, development, and how well the
student’s perform. Through the use of a rating scale you would know if there
are things to improve or to continue. In line with that, the observation and
evaluation uses to me as students teacher enables me to know how well I perform
as an aspiring teacher.
In
my practice teaching, observation and evaluation forms are part of measuring my
growth and development. It was used by my cooperating teacher to determine
whether I was able to meet the standards set up by the school and adjacent to
basic technical and personal qualities of a teacher. It gives me idea on how
well I work and perform as a future teacher. It brought to my knowledge the
things I have strengths and my weak points which I have to develop. From the
start of my practice teaching up to the end it updates me on the development of
my skill, competencies, and characteristics.
As
a student teacher, my daily teaching demonstration was observed and evaluated.
Assessing my skills, techniques, strategies, and the way I interact with the
people inside the school are great factor in knowing whether I am prepared
already to become a teacher. Analyzing and evaluating each dimension of my
qualities as a student teacher enables me for greater improvement, development
and continuation of my strengths to provide a better service to the students as
a teacher.
