Start of Practice Teaching

The Grade 7 building. |
This was the first day of my practice teaching. I was
briefed by my cooperating teacher Ms. Dessierose D. de Martin about what I
would do, how I would teach, and what I would teach. After that, I asked few
questions with regards to practice teaching, students strategies. She also
showed me her class record, attendance sheet, daily lesson log, and grade
lists. she toured me around the Grade 7 classrooms and tells me some
important things about handling students with Special needs.
|
This day was a start of my learning through Laboratory
Method. Whereas, Iluminada Roxas-Mendoza Memorial High School serves as my
laboratory on which I would learn through learning by doing. The apparatus
that I used was the school, students, and teachers.
|
This day I learned that what I learned in the school may
not be applicable in today’s reality and being nervous was just normal
because it symbolizes that you love what you are doing as my cooperating
teacher tells me. These things made me eager to pursue my career in teaching
and being passionate in this vocation.

Today was my second day as student teacher in Iluminada
Roxas-Mendoza Memorial High School. This day my cooperating teacher asked
students who are willing to participate in the upcoming intramurals and
Teachers Day activities for her first class which was her advisory class. On
her remaining classes she just gave a short discussion then leave me to
administer an activity entitled “Konsiyensiya: Gabay Ko sa Tamang Pagpapasya”.
Thereafter, she check the lesson plans that I prepared.
For her succeeding classes, she did not able to accompany
me so I went to her next classes on my own. As I administer the activity, I
saw how students cooperate with me and follow my rules
After the classes I check the activity sheets of the
students and record it. As I checked the papers for the first time as a
teacher, I saw how students lay down their ideas through writing. I read
students papers and noticed that most of them have correct answers and only
few were not.
|
Problem method was the one I observed this day. The
activity proposes several situation which contains a problem at the end and
student should provide answers to the posted problems.
|
As I first stand in front of the class as a teacher, I
felt nervous, excited, and doubtful if students would follow me. When the
time passed b I was able to control what I felt and continue to do the
activity. I am happy that the students followed me and was able to the
activity well.

My visual aids for my first teaching. |
Today was my first day of teaching here in the school. I
felt nervous on what would be the outcome of my work. As I arrived at the
school I checked if all the things that I would need was ready like visual
aid, laptop, lesson plan, and others. Before the class starts, a regular flag
raising ceremony was held at the school grounds and I assists my students in
their line. The ceremony took too so long because there were many
announcement which mostly about school activities for intramurals.
After the ceremony, I proceed in the classroom and wait
for a while because many students are not yet inside. As they became
complete, I proceed in the flow of my lesson plan such as prayer, greetings,
arranging the classroom, attendance, motivation and more. My motivational
activity makes the students happy and interested in the lesson because it was
like a segment in one of T.V Show wherein students should fit on a ring made
of crepe paper and it should not tore apart then I proceed on discussion.
I proceed on the teaching for the first and second class
because I already met them last week. However, on my remaining classes I
asked them to write the information on my visual aids and tell them what I
expect, my rules and regulations and something about myself.
|
I used Lecture Method in delivering my lesson. I used it
because I do not know the characteristics of my students. I do not want to
other method if I do not know what my students are.
|
After the class, my cooperating teacher tells me my strong
points like creating questions suitable to students, providing good activity
for motivation, great visual aids, and more which make me felt happy and to
do better. Based on what she says I was able to know my strengths and some
things to improve because knowing it contributes to my development as a
teacher. This experience makes me felt nervous at first but as time went by
it decreases and put confidence on me.

Today, there were no classes because it was the day of
Intramurals in the school. I joined my cooperating teacher and other teachers
in accompanying the students in a parade held as an opening to the
intramurals. After the parade, an opening ceremony was held for the
Intramurals. Then, the sports activities proceeded like badminton,
basketball, and others.
|
Although there were no classes, I observed that the school
utilized intramurals as a medium of instruction. Through the intramurals,
students were able to develop their talents, skills, and social
communications.
|
In a quote “All
works and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” I remember this word as I saw how
students participate in the sport activities and other activities in the
intramurals. Students were able to explore their skills and talents and show
it. Students should not only focus on academic subjects, they should also
engaged on physical activities particularly sports.

While discussing my lesson for the day. |
Today I discussed about the second part of the topic “Mga
Sinaunang Kabihasnan sa Timog at Kanlurang Asya” for the second and third
class and the first part on the third and fourth class. As I discussed the
motivation I used an activity entitled “it never happened” which asked if a
thing never exist or an event didn’t happened. After that discussion of the
lesson and quiz.
On my last class in the afternoon students were too noisy,
some speaks so loud louder than me, attentions of some were difficult to grab
and a few students cut my class and move around the school grounds. These
things make me angry to the students and gave few words to correct their
acts..
|
Today, I uses discussion method as a means of delivering
the lesson. I lay down facts and let the students analyze it with the help of
the art of questioning.
|
This day was a physically and mentally exhausting day
because I talked all day to my students and grabbing their attentions and
focusing them in class activities. I understood how difficult it is to live
as a teacher because there were many works to do and you have sometimes to
talked all day to your class and moving around each corner of the room to see
if your students were still there and listening to you. Aside from that you
also have to get angry and correct students behavior so that the class
discussion may flow smoothly.

Today I have three different lessons for each of my class.
On my first class I taught about “Mga Mahahalagang Pangyayari sa Timog at
Kanlurang Asya” part one and two.
Next, I taught about “Mga Mahahalagang Pangyayari sa Hilaga at
Silangang Asya” part one. Then, I taught “Mga Mahahalagang Pangyayari sa
Timog at Kanlurang Asya” part two. It happen because there are many events
and class suspension. Even though I taught different lessons this day I am
able to deliver it well. However, sometimes I say some words which were
connected to the other lessons.
This day was an exhausting day because each time I have to
use different visual aids to present information. I also used different
motivational activities to enhance student interests. Aside from exhaustion
due to teaching different lessons, in one of my class I gave a short reminder
about their recess because it take much time of the class. I tell to them that
they should finish their recess before their class starts and they should all
be in at exactly 9:40 in the morning.
|
This day because I had to taught different lessons and use
different strategies. I used Lecture Method and Discussion Method in delivering
my lesson.
|
I realized this day that time was valuable and it should
not be wasted in a not meaningful thing. I think about this because in one of
my class most of them came late because they took recess. The class should
start at 9:40 but we started by 10:00 in the morning. They did not able to do
some activity because of that.

This day my cooperating teacher tells me the activity that
the students would do today. The activity was about wishes, reason behind it,
and things should do and should not to achieved it. It revolves around the
thought of people’s freedom to choose their actions. I let the students do
the activity in a piece of intermediate pad for a few minutes. After they
finish the activity, I asked them to share their answers and have a short
discussion.
As days went by, I felt comfortable with the teachers
inside the SPED room and able to communicate with them as well as with other
teachers. In one of my class, a the
class adviser of 7-Humility approached me and asked me the list of her
students who cut my class. Aside from the list that I gave to her, I tell her
that most of her advisory students come to my class because of their
recess and due to that we start the class late. Then she proceed to her
advisory class and talked to them. My cooperating teacher tell me that what
I’ve done was correct and I should asked students about the reasons when they
were late.
|
On the activity, I uses the a type of discussion which was
the Brainstorming. For about 30 minutes I asks students to think about
wishes, its reason, and more. Then I ask them to share what they wrote in the
class.
|
I realized this day that communication with other teachers
were vital in developing students attitude, work, and behavior because in
molding a students it needs a community who have a helping hand. Teacher
should have a better communication with other teacher so that they could
create or help each other to guide students.

Today seem like a normal day because as time went by I am
doing the same things again and again.
I taught about ancient civilizations in China. A program was held at
the covered court which makes noise and because of that I have to use much
louder voice so that students could hear me well. After doing that I felt too
tired.
|

Before I leave the school, I make sure that the classroom
of my cooperating teacher was clean up by students and the door was locked.
This makes me think that as a class adviser your duty was not just on
students but also on the environment which serves as the second home.

Today, I prepared my visual aids using my laptop and do
not have a projector. As I always do, I carry my laptop as I discussed and
tackle the lesson. My topic for the day was about Kalayaan or Freedom. To
make them motivated I asked them what things they can associate with the word
kalayaan and many of them were eager to answer. After that, I gave a short
discussion about the meaning of freedom, the essence of freedom, and its type
and how to be responsible with the freedom they have. Then, I asked them to get
a whole sheet of paper for their activity. The activity today was about the
fast and long-term results of their actions on particular situations. I just
noticed that many of them do not have a piece of paper so I suggest that as
an alternative they can get a piece of paper on their notebook. After the
activity, I asked some students to share their answers.
|
In my lesson, I used Conceptual Approach in delivering it.
I lay down the definition of freedom and let students provide additional
information through experiences and ideas about the topic.
|
This day, I leaned that sometimes as a teacher you would
also learn from the lesson you taught. Based on what I taught, I learned that
there’s plenty of choices in our lives and the move to choose lies on our hands
without other’s interception. We were the one who was in command in choosing
what’s best and what’s worst for us.
Aside from what I learn from my lesson, I also learned
that not all students have the capacity to purchase some school supplies like
paper.

Today I taught about the Dignity of people which was in
line with the ESP subject. I use my laptop to show the sentences and phrases
which provides explanations and examples with regards to the topic. The
schedule today was shortened so I have limited time to discuss and conduct
the activity. However, for my first two classes I am able discuss and
administer the activity but on my last class I did not able to attend because
I do not know the time when would I start the class and I have forms to
accomplished. After my classes I checked activity sheets and quizzes and
recorded it.
|
Today, I uses conceptual approach because in teaching
Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao you doesn’t need to provide many technical terms
but rather to focus on its meanings nd examples.
|
Today, class hours were shortened because teacher would
have faculty meeting. I observed that teachers in the faculty do not know
when their class will start and ends. There was no mass dissemination of
schedule of classes. I learned that when there was alteration on class
schedules there should be
dissemination of class schedule because time was important.

Today, I did not able to attend my classes after lunch
because there were an orientation with regard to the upcoming National
Achievement test tomorrow. However, for my first and second class I am able
to check the attendance and let them copy the information on my visual aids.
After my first two classes, I collected the notebooks of my students, checked
it and the record it on my class record.
In one of my class, a male students does not follow my
rule and from time to time I tell him to stop. However, there were times that
he stops but after a while continues to talk too loud and move around the
room. After my class, I tell it to my cooperating teacher and she say that
the student I was referring to have a special need and part of Special Education Class.
|
Not all students have books and only few were given due to
lack of supplies. In order for the students to have something to read on as
reviewer, I tell them to copy the information I posted on the board.
|
This day, I learned that as time went by I am able to
distinguish and knew the characteristics of my students. Some of them need to
be supervised in order for them to work on activities like discussions and
doing classroom routines like cleaning the room. There should be enough
implementation of classroom management and motivation to work and act
accordingly. Aside from that, before saying or doing anything to correct
students wrong acts or attitudes, you should know his/her background because
in some cases like what I experience today. I learned that some of my
students have special needs and I should be the one who would make a way in
order to cope with their abilities and characteristics.

Today, I have no classes because of the National
Achievement Test taken by Grade 7 students. Although there were no classes, I
still went to the school because my cooperating teacher asked me and I have
to record notebooks of my students which I checked yesterday. The school
faculty have a meeting and practice for the upcoming Teacher’s Day Celebration
in school and in the municipal hall.

The method I observed today was the use of standardized
test in order to assessed students learning by the government through the
Department of Education.. The learning that was assessed for the Grade 7
students was the knowledge they learn on the elementary education
|
This day I learned that, even if there were no classes
teacher should went to school. Aside from teaching inside the class they also
had other duties and responsibilities.

Today was the second day of Teacher’s Day Celebration.
However, this time the celebration was conducted inside the classroom. After
the surprised celebration for my cooperating teacher of her advisory class, I
administer an activity to them because they have nothing to do. After the
break, I did not able to attend my class because their party was not yet
over. After lunch, I conduct discussion and activity on my next class because
I did not able to meet them last week. Thereafter, I checked the activity and
create the examination questions.
Some of my students greeted me Happy Teachers Day today.

As the school conducts its teacher’s day celebration, I
felt honored to become one of them. When the students tell me happy teacher’s
day I realized how different it was to be a teacher. It was for the reason
that you would be part of nurturing the youth and living marks on their
lives.

Today after Teacher’s Day celebration yesterday we were
back to regular class schedule. The lessons in ESP for the second quarter
were already taught. In order for the student to be reviewed, I prepared an
activity that will utilize their acting and thinking skill skills which was
Role Playing. I created six situations which in the end there was a question
to be answered by the students through acting it. I divided the class into
six groups and give each group 20 minutes to conceptualize and prepare but
before they start to prepare I tell them the criteria for grading. As I
conduct it in the first section, they were able to express their thoughts
clearly and meaningfully. They were able to provide good answers in actions
in a simple way without any props or costumes. However, as I conduct it in
the second section I was surprised in the way they execute their answers
through role playing because they did not just act their answers. They
provide props through the things they saw in their classroom and provide
costumes and put thing on their classmate’s faces and body to further express
and to make it more realistic. Due to the unexpected performance of the
second section I gave them an additional 10 points. After the activity I gave
a summary and reflection on the idea of their performance.
When my classes were done, I checked some papers and
record it. Today I also assisted my students for the vaccination against
diphtheria and influenza conducted by the Municipal Health Office.

This day a uses a technique of discussion method which was
Sociodrama. It was form of role play whereas the situation that they would
act out was based on a situation that can be seen in the society. It enables
students to develop their social and intellectual skills.
|
Using performance-based assessment method to evaluate
students’ progress enable them to show their understanding of the lesson.
When I used a role play to measure their knowledge I did not expect that they
would respond that way. As they were performing I saw how students enjoy and
able to express their other skills and talent. This experience enables me to
think using other form of interactive activities for the students to show
their other capabilities.

Today, I think was the first worst day that I experienced
in my student teaching days. The reason behind this was my next class after
the break which was on 7-Humility. As I enter the class they are too noisy
which continue as I went through to my discussion regarding Ancient Korea and
Japan. I tried so many times to stop them from creating too much noise and
doing other thing like eating and moving around each corner of the room.
However, it doesn’t make sense and they still continue to talk loud and so I asked
them to stand and remain standing as long as they were not silent. All the
things and words I say was not sufficient enough to make them silent until I
told them that my cooperating teacher would came in and talk to them after my
class. As I say that they stop talking and became silent so I continue to
discuss and after that let them copy the information on my visual aids.
After my class on that section, I tell to my cooperating
teacher regarding that matter and as I she went to that class to talk to
them. After she came back, she told me that I should change the way I
interact with my students so that they would respect me and there would be
boundaries between me and them. She told me that rather than shouting and
talking to make them quiet, I should just stare at them without saying any
words until they behave. I tried that for my succeeding classes but I think
it was effective for some and not on others.

The technique that I observed this day was the way
handling students misbehavior. In order to maintain the discipline in the
classroom you have to show that you are the one superior to them in a way
that they would follow and respect you as a teacher. Avoid over familiarity
because as they say “familiarity brings contempt”.
|
Today, I learned that when you were too kind to students
they would abuse it and act in a way that they felt comfortable with you and
respect you no more. From this day forward, I would show to them the teacher
that would make them behave accordingly in such a way that respect would
prevail in my class.

Today the some Senior High School students take the
National Achievement Test so there were no classes. I checked writings on
notebooks and record it. I also prepare an activity that my students would do
tomorrow because I and my cooperating teacher would not be there because
tomorrow would be the quiz bee contest. The activity was composed of 15 items
multiple choice questions which would be answered by the students after they
read some texts on their module. After that I shortly reviewed the
participant on the quiz bee.
|
I observed today again the use of standardized test in
order to assessed students learning by the government through the Department
of Education.. The learning that was assessed for the Grade 11 students on
the senior high school was the knowledge they learn on their junior high
school.
|
Checking and putting the scores of the students into
records were part of teachers’ works. By recording students’ scores you were
able to track their progress. Aside from that you would also have a chance to
saw their strengths and weaknesses.

This day my cooperating teacher decided that she would be
the one who would attend the classes. Therefore, I have nothing to do so
aside from checking papers, and other requirements of the students for second
grading and putting it on record because a few days after the quarter would
end. However, in the afternoon I distributed the notebooks that I checked and
asked Grade-7 Hope to accomplish the activity that they do yesterday. After
that I check papers and record it.
|
The technique that I observed today was to check if the
students passed all the requirement that they need for the quarter. It was
for the reason that when you checked it ahead students would be able to
comply with it before the quarter ends.
|
Even I do it again and again, checking students paper and
putting it on records were part of a teacher’s life. You as a teacher have to
track down students development through time.
|

This day my cooperating teacher say that she would be the
one to come again in the first class so I checked some students portfolios
for ESP. Afterwards she asked me to accompany her in the second class which I
had a bad experience last Monday to show how she handle them. Then, on the
third and last class I was the one to attend to them. I administer them a
quiz then discussed what they would go to do in their portfolios. After the
class, I assist my students to form in line for the Living Rosary. As I
assisting them one of the catechists asked me to join in holding one of the
beads of the big rosary that they made together with the students and other
teacher. After the rosary, a balloon was let to fly bearing some prayers of
the students and the other prayer requests were burned.

The used of portfolio to assessed students development was
the one I observed today. Through portfolio, students were able to show how
they perform on the past lessons and how they progress through time. Aside
from that, I also observed that the school together with religious
organizations teamed up to inject or taught values to the students.
|
Having faith in God was one of the key to success in life.
Bringing God inside the school was pouring blessings to all of the people
inside it. Having said that teaching the students how to pray enables them to
connect with their creator. All of that I learn as I accompany my students in
the living rosary.

This day was the first day of the students’ second
periodic examination. I am the one who administer the exam to the advisory
class of my cooperating teacher which was on 7 Love. Their first exam was the
long test in AP which I make aside from the periodic test. After that they
take Mathematics, English, and the periodical test in AP. After the exam the
students checked their answers sheet as well as the answers sheets of the
other sections in AP. Then I record their scores.
After the exam, the students were gathered on the covered
court for the farewell speech of the OIC of the school Ms. Virginia R.
Mendoza. Her speech centered on the beginning of the foundation of the school
up to the things she contributes on the development of the school. Later, the
students were gathered again after their lunch to attend a short seminar from
a pastor about motivation in life. I assist my students and I also became
part of the teachers who presented the certificate to the speaker.

There were two things I observed today. First, I observed
that the use of standardized test measures and enhances students learning
with focusing on memorizing, analyzing, and comprehending. Second, teaching
doesn’t only in the hands of the teachers sometimes you have to look outside
the school and ask a resource person to teach the students so that students
can learn more.
|
Standardized test were used to measure students
understanding but more on students capacity to memorized. However, it was one
of the time tested methods that enables teachers to know how their students
developed and learn. By putting students’ knowledge into tests let teacher
know where their students doesn’t understand.

Today was the second day of the second periodical test of
the students. However, they were just abled to take one subject because the
classes were cut to give way for the arrival of the new principal Mr. Neri
Laurio Dizon. Before his arrival, the whole school community was busy on the
preparations like cleaning the room, school grounds and facilities, and
arranging the stage and things the visitors would need. After that students
who are members of school drum and lire group and Boy Scouts of the
Philippines form in line to welcome the arrival of the new principal. At 1:00
in the afternoon the new school principal arrives accompanied by several
other principals from other schools and they were welcomed by the outgoing
principal Ms. Virginia R. Mendoza. Then the turnover ceremony begins. On the
turn over ceremony the outgoing and incoming principal gave their speech and
other key people in the school and Division office gave also their speech.
After the speech some important documents and things were passed by the
former principal to the new one. Then, when the ceremony was done, the new
principal, visitors, and school teacher gathered for a small celebration in
one of the classrooms.
|
The technique that I learned today was handling and
running a school as I listen to the speeches of the outgoing and incoming
principals. Running a school was like developing your own home and making the
best for it.
|
Every journey has its end and as it ends a new ones begin.
As a new journey begins, changes comes and peoples starts to worry about it.
It was the lessons that I learned as the turnover ceremony for the principal of
Iluminada Roxas-Mendoza Memorial High School was conducted.

Today was the first day of class for second semester in
public schools. There were only few students who attends the class some
section in grade 7 have eight students and some sections were totally absent.
Since I do not have students to teach I, my cooperating teacher asked me to
arranged the papers of the student. I also help students in designing their
bulletin board.

The method I observed today was making decisions out of
the situation because the principal decided to cancelled the classes for
tomorrow due to the few numbers of students who attends the class and
teachers cannot conducts class without students.
|
Since this day way a day after All Saints Day there were
only few students who come into class. Even though they were tired they still
came in. They do not want to miss a day for a reason because they value
education.

Today, students were back to their regular classes and
schedule. Most of the sections in grade 7 have a total attendance. This day I
administer the exam that I prepared for third quarter as a pre-test or
pre-assessment of their prior knowledge. Before giving the exam I tell them
the things they need to do and explain to them that the exam was just a
pre-test and they don’t have to get a high score they should only avoid
cheating and accomplished it based on their capacity. After I administer the
exam in all of my students I grade 7, my cooperating teacher checked my
prepared lesson plan that I will use in my teaching demonstration.
|
I uses again the
standardized test composes of 50 items multiple choice question as a
diagnostic test. I do that to assessed if the students have prior knowledge
to the lessons that would be taught in the third quarter.
|
Knowing what the students already know about a topic help
the teacher. It helps by letting the teacher know what topic should he or she
focused. It enables the teacher also
to provide basic information and a gist of what the lessons would be in the
current chapter.

This day I conduct an activity to the students for ESP.
Their activity was entitled “Iskala ng Pagpapahalaga” where in they assess
how they value things like family, friends, computer, and others. They write
P and G on a scale of numbers from 1 to 7, 1 was the lowest and 7 as the
highest. The letter P stands for paniniwala and G for Gawa. After they
accomplished their task, we talk about it by letting them share their answers
and their reasons for it.
|
I used today a numerical rating scale to know how students
values different things in their life.
|
People value things and people differently. They valuing
things based on their personality, emotions, and the people around them
taught them. However, their value for their family were similarly
extraordinary.
|

Today I asked my students to copy some information about
“Hirarkiya ng Pagpapahalaga Ayon kay Max Scheler”. I wrote the information on
the board and let them copy. As I was doing it for the second class, there
are two girl students who talk to loud and disregard my instruction and they
were bothering their classmates. The first thing I did was to asked them to
went at the back of the seats and later I talk to them asking why there are
doing it and if there were problems. They just smile and remain silent. After
the class I tell it to my cooperating teacher and told me that it was right.
Later, there were a seminar about violence against women and children which I
took part by leading the prayer.
|
The technique that I learned today was handling students
misbehavior by talking to them. In order to clarify things and understood why
they act like that, I talked to them personally about that matter and tell
them that act in such a way that they would not disturb the class and would
respect. I was able to talk to them calmly.
|
Providing guidance and counselling to the students in need
were part of teachers life. As I conduct counselling for my students to
addressed their missed behavior I learned one thing improper behavior of a
student was sometimes a manifestation of their problem at home. On that point
I understood the reason behind many students bad attitudes.

Today I administer a pre-test for ESP to my students. The
exam was created by my cooperating teacher. After they accomplished the test
we checked their papers.

I uses standardized tests to evaluate students prior
knowledge in ESP for third quarter. The questions were more situational and
focuses on affective domain.
|
Teacher made test were used to measure students
understanding of a lesson. It was one of the time tested methods that enables
teachers to know how their students developed and learn. By putting students’
prior knowledge into tests, teacher know where their students have strengths
in the lesson.

Today, the students supposed to do an activity and wrote
some information in ESP for the topic “Birtud”. However, my first class was already
wrote the information so they just accomplished the activity entitled
“Kaganapan ng Birtud”. The second and last sections took much time so they
weren’t able to do the activity. After the classes, there were a seminar in
the covered court about smoking and the students were asked to go there and I
assist them.
|
I observed today the use of Team Teaching in the seminar
conducted by teachers. There were three teacher shares their thoughts and
information about the topic Smoking to the students.
|
Learning where not just gained inside the four corners of
other classroom you can also learn outside of the class. Through the seminar
conducted at the covered court students were able to learn the dangers of
smoking to their health. It was a great help in preventing students from
vices like smoking.

Today, I assist my students in their line for the flag
raising ceremony. On my first and third class I conducted a dry run for my
final demo on Wednesday. For my second and fourth class, I asked them to
answer questions that I posted on the board using their module in Araling
Panlipunan. After they accomplished it we proceed in discussing the
questions.
|
Today I uses discovery method to the students. There were
questions posted on the board and through their book they have to find
answers on it. Then they have to share their answers to the class.
|
Students can answer
simple questions which we can use in discussion for them to engage in the
teaching and learning process. Through engaging students in the teaching and
learning process you were able to build a skill to the students which was to
learn how to learn.

This day was the day before my final demo. To be able to
have a review in the class relevant to my final demo, I discuss a lesson
prior to my topic which was Nasyonalismo sa Asya. The discussion of the topic
revolves around different activities like role play, slogan making, listing
down, and drawing. I am happy that they were able to do the activity
creatively. For my remaining classes, I proceed in giving them activity about
“ Mga Dahilan ng Unang Yugto ng Kolonyalismo at Imperyalismo sa Asya”. To
engage my students, I posted words and students should find the meaning of
it.
|
I used differentiated activities in my first class which
composes of drawing, acting, and writing. It provides students to express
their talents and understanding about the lesson nationalism. For my other
classes, I used discovery method to engaged them in the discussion for the
other topic.
|
Like the Europeans who do anything to find ways to reach
Asia guided by their goals, people do anything they can to achieve their
dreams. This is what I learn as I teach “ Mga Dahilan ng Unang Yugto ng
Kolonyalismo at Imperyalismo sa Asya”.

This day was my final demonstration teaching. I organized
the things that I will use as I arrived at the school. After I arranged them
I tell my students some reminders and things to do and not to do. Then I wait
for the arrival of my supervisor. As he came, we proceed in the
demonstration. In my demonstration, many things which are planned to do were
forgotten and some things were not go the it should be like in the group
activity, recitation, and many more. After the demonstration of my classmate,
we proceed with the deliberation where my supervisor , cooperating teacher,
and other observers tell me what the thing I lack, mistakes, and strong
points. I already know the things they say but as they tell it to me I
explain my side why I do that.
|
Today, I observed various strategies and methods. First,
the integration of technology in delivering the lesson. Second, engaging
students with cooperative learning through providing group activities that
enhances their intellectual and social skills. Then, Demonstration Method
whereas I show to the observers how I teach as a future teacher.
|
“I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me”
This verse from the Bible was the words I keep on my mind as I do my final demonstration teaching. I
doubt about myself capacity to finish it successfully but I trust God and I
did my best. Even though it doesn’t flow according to what I plan I still
thankful that I finished it successfully. I did it with the help of my
cooperating teacher, students, family and especially with God.

This
day all things were back to normal. For my classes all day I administer an
activity about the topic “Birtud”. The activity consists of two part which
the only thing they need to do was to put check on the column of the
statement and the second part on the thing they do. After the classes,
parents came because this day was the distribution of cards and awarding of
students with honors for second quarter. As parents came in the school there
was an incident occur when a student accidentally because of their negligence
hurt one of the parents so the parent beside were so anger about that and
confronted me. I talked to the parent and tell her that I will refer her to
the class adviser of the students and I did so. Thereafter, I assist my cooperating teacher in
distributing the cards.

Today I observed how to handle an angry parent to a
student who hurts her friend. The technique was just being calm and know the
root of the problem and refer them to the right person to talked to.
|
Parents and teachers communication were vital in raising
up the students. Through communication, teachers and parents were able to
know the problems, performance, behavior, and other things about the
students. Aside from that, I also
learned this day how to handle angry parents of students for some reason and
it was just being calm because if you would join the emotions of him/her
things would end up worst.

Today I discussed the topic “Mga Tagapaglinang ng
Pagpapahalaga” which encompasses
family, friends, media, church, and community. After that I administer an
activity to them with regards to that topic and have a short sharing of their
answer about the things they learn on each influencers on the values
orientation. Because there was a free time on my cooperating teacher’s
advisory class I administer to them an activity in the AP subject.
|
On the activity, I uses the a type of discussion which was
the Brainstorming. For about 30 minutes I asks students to think about
wishes, its reason, and more. Then I ask them to share what they wrote in the
class.
|
When students have an experience similar to the lesson
they can easily understood the lesson. Sometimes rather than focusing on the
technical terms, it was better to focus on its thought so that they can
understand it easily. This was like focusing on the meaning of life rather
than focusing on life as a word.

Today I discuss the topic “Mga Dahilan ng Ikalawang Yugto
ng Imperyalismo at kolonyalismo sa Timog at Kanlurang Asya”. The students
already answer an activity prior to the discussion wherein the provide
meanings on some terms and list down the causes of imperialism and
colonialism. As we checked their
activity, they share their answers and then I inject some facts and some
process questions.

Discussion can flow easily and can engage students
participation if they have some information from their prior activity. If
students know something about the topic they were eager to share their
thoughts.

This day I gather 10 important people from the history of
South and North Asia from the nationalist to women leaders. I did this
because I have to discuss the remaining topic for third quarter which I
included in the exam that I made which I used as my pre-test and my
post-test. To tackle it briefly I ask students to identify the names of these
people based on their deeds using their book. After that we tackled them and
let the students tell their answers
|
The method that I
observed today was the use of Discovery Method. I posted the names of various
people and students should find the legacy of those person. After that they
share their answers on the class.
|
The insights I gained today was that people can leave
traces on this world based on the things they make and contributed in the
lives of other people. A question baffled my mind “What will be my legacy in
life?”. Leaving legacy to the people and in this world was a great achievement
for me that I want to do.

Today I joined the clean-up drive of the members of the AP
Club accompanied by the AP teachers. We clean parts of the road leading and
surrounding the school. After that we went back to the school to continue
classes.
Thereafter, I discuss about “Uri ng Birtud” to my students
and they do an activity wherein they create stories showing one of our topic.
When they done I collected their papers and checked it.
|
The technique that I observed today was the utilization of
students creativity in generating ideas about
topic. They done that through writing a story based on their
experience and or ideas.
|
As I checked the papers of my students some of them tell
their true experience and it contains problems with regards to their family,
friends, and community. I learned that not all students live as happy as
others and the school and the community plays a big role in molding and
educating the students.

Today I discuss about different terms related to the
history of South and North Asia. These terms focuses on the events,
movements, rituals, and aspects of culture. However, before I proceed to
discussion I let students have an activity which was to put the words into
their corresponding definitions. In order to give clues to students I put the
initial letter of the word or words after the statement or definitions. After
that we proceed on the discussion.
|
I used today the ability of students to analyze and
connect words with the help of hints. In doing that I was able to deliver the
lesson well because students interact and lead the discussion.
|
This day I started to count the day before I leaved this
school because my practice teaching would end up soon. As the day comes
nearer, I started to realized that I became part of educating the students
for few months and that made me a part of their lives.

Today was my last day of discussion in Araling Panlipunan
but not my last day in school. To end up my discussion, I discuss about
“Balangkas ng Pamahalaan sa Timog at Kanlurang Asya”. I started the discussion by tackling some
aspects and functions of government. Thereafter, there was a student’s
activity which discusses the different types of government. In each section,
I prepared different activities such as tableau, role play, and concept map.
I am happy that the students were able to accomplish the activity well
although at first they did not know what to do. I summed up the discussion
about “Balangkas ng Pamahalaan sa Timog at Kanlurang Asya” with a song
entitled “Pananagutan”. The song tells a message the responsibility of the
people to each other which was given by God as we born in this world. Then I
say some word like people should not rely solely to government for help, they
should also achieved their dream the way they want it to be and be
responsible on each other.
|
I observed today the use of differentiated activity on my
different classes. I divided the activity into three types which was tableau,
role play, and concept mapping. The tableau was done by two classes, role
play for one class, and concept mapping for another two classes. I also
integrate the use of audio aids in the application of the lesson.
|
As I and my cooperating teacher brief the new student
teacher that would replace me about the students characteristics, I realized
that I have many experiences for few months I’ve stayed here. The experiences that I’ve passed through
were from the students, teachers, and parents but mostly from students. These
experiences molds me up to how I interact with my students, teachers, and
parents which all part of the school community. All the things happened on me
lingers on my mind and contribute to my skills and strategy on becoming a teacher
and understanding the teaching profession.

This day I discuss about “Mga Pangunahing Emosyon”. In
tackling it I use situation relevant to the life of students and they
responds actively in the discussion. After the discussion, I prepare an
activity for the students which would basically use facial expression. Using
their faces they express varied emotions by group like happy, sad, angry,
shock, and more. My first and last class accomplished the activity well but
the second class does not able to do it because they were too noisy and does
not actively participating so they just have a quiz.
This day also was the taking of class picture. I was asked
by my cooperating teacher to join them and so I did.
|
The technique that I observed today was the use of
students facial expression to show understanding of a concept. Aside from
that, I also able to make decision based on the situation because students
were noisy instead of doing the said activity I ask them to get a sheet of
paper for a quiz.
|
As I was sitting at the front row beside my cooperating
teacher and students for the picture taking, I remember back then in my high
school years when I am just one of the students standing at the back for
class picture. Now, I am one of the teachers sitting in front leading the
class for class picture. This makes me thought how near I am to my dream of
becoming a teacher. This moments adds on to the important things happens in
this chapter of my life.

This day I administer an exam to my students for ESP.
After that they checked their papers as I say the answers. After the class, I
recorded their scores and I saw how much they learn to my class as most of
them got high score.

and focuses on affective domain.

I observed this day that as I came nearer and nearer to
the end of my term as a student teacher in this school, I felt that students
have been closed to me and I earned their respect as their teacher.
Sometimes, I heard students saying at my back that they don’t want me to
leave them and I am a good teacher. I am flattered with the words they utter
but put questions on my mind like “Am I that kind?” and “Am I a good
teacher?” These things make me felt happy and sad because a few day remain
for my practice teaching.

This day was the fourth day before my practice teaching
ends. I administer a post-test in Araling Panlipunan for third quarter. The
exam that I administer was constructed from the lessons in third quarter from
the start up to the last lesson. After I administer the exam the students
check their papers. Aside from administering an exam to my students, I also
had a time as a substitute teacher for Grade 9-Silver because their teacher
was out for a contest as a coach. The thing I only do in her class was to ask
the students to do an activity in a whole sheet of paper.

In order to summed up the lessons for third quarter I use
again standardized test composes of 50 items multiple choice question as a
chapter test. I do that to assessed if the students have learned the lessons
that taught in the third quarter.
|
As I record the scores of my students I saw how high their
scores was and also how low the scores of some students. On this matter, I
realized that students have different ability to memorized, comprehend, and
analyzed that should be understood by teachers. Their ability expresses in
different manners not only in a standardized test. Not all of the students
can also get high scores in an exam due to different reasons such as
absenteeism, disabilities, and learning disorder.

Today was the third day before I leave this school for
practice teaching. I gave a 20 item quiz in Araling Panlipunan to my
students. After the quiz, I ask my students in my first three class to get a
piece of paper and do an activity in ESP. The activity they done was about “
Pagpapasya” wherein they have to decide whether an act was right or wrong and
add a reason for their answers.
On my last two classes in the afternoon after the quiz, I
have different activity. It was not about a ESP or other subject rather it
was about saying my last good bye. However, I do not want to just go without
leaving any traces on them and just going out without saying anything that
they should ponder. I say to my second class that they should study history
because like history our past gave us things and knowledge about solving
problems in the future and it should serve as our foundation in building a
better life for their selves and the society.
In my last class, I did not expect their reactions. As I
say my last words some of them cries mostly girls but there are also boys. I
did know why they are crying and a question come to my mind and it “what were
the things I done to them that make them cry as I leave?” My message to them
revolves around their attitude because most of them had a bad attitude and
behavior. I tell them that not all attitudes were good or all behavior and
they should change it not for their teacher or for other but for themselves.
I also say that changing it may be beneficial not only for them but more
importantly to their families who they want to help with.
It was real that in life expect the unexpected. My last
class in the afternoon which was 7-Hope was the section I hated most. It is
for the reason that most of them were rude, noisy, lazy, and more. There were
times that I totally did not want to went in their class and my cooperating
teacher was the one went there. However, things were changed as I bid my last
farewell to them and ask them to have a class picture. Then I ask them to all
rise and for the last time I say “ Goodbye 7-Hope”.
|
There were students who got low scores in the examination.
In order to give them a remedial, I ask them to get a piece of paper for a 20
item quiz to add to their scores.
|
This day I do not know what to feel whether I would cry,
laugh, smile, or what, but inside of me there a mixed of emotions. I felt sad
because it was my last day and happy because I know that I became part of
their journey in life as well as they were part of me. I realized that life
continues and ends were just a beginning to a new journey. As you bid goodbye
to a chapter you should leave traces
on it. Never leave without doing anything remarkable.

Today, I had to bid my last farewell to my students
because tomorrow there was no assurance that there would be regular classes
or many students. To end my teaching, I ask my students to watch a video
entitled “Liham ng Magulang sa Anak” and then ask them some questions about
family. After a short discussion about the video, I gave a talk about love of
parents to their children and love of children to their parents.
As I giving my talk about love for parents, many students
in each sections mostly girls were crying. They were crying because they were
able to connect their feeling to what I say. My words focus on how they treat
their parents, how they parents loved them, and why should they love their
parents. Then, I gave them a piece of paper and ask them to wrote the things
they want to say to their parents. As we went on that part most of them even
boys break down and cry. The thing they done left them to tears.
After the activity was done, I start the part of saying
goodbye. I tell them how I am thankful that I met them and able to be part of
their journey in life. I tell them that I conduct the activity because I want
to end my teaching on them in a meaningful and remarkable way. Then, I ask
them to wrote the things they want to say or they can say to me for the last
time on a colored paper. Before I say my last goodbye I say I want them to
see next time as a successful individual who achieved their dream and help
others. For the last time I ask them to stand up and say “Goodbye”.
As I leave and even before I leave, many of them cries.
They don’t want me to leave and ask for an extension of my teaching but I say
to them that ends were just a part of life and we can’t avoid it. I do not
know why they cry or why they don’t want me to leave. Their reactions as I
leave make me felt emotional because now I will leave the people who become
part of my life.
|
This day, I uses audio aids in delivering my farewell
lesson. Through the songs I’ve played the students were able to understand
the meaning of the lesson. The way I deliver my last lesson was based on
conducting a mass guidance and counselling because I talked about a topic
which was about family to students and they have able to express their
emotions.
|
The hardest part of every journey was its end. As my
journey inside their classrooms ends up, I am happy, sad, and emotional
because for the past few months I’ve been here serving as a teacher. There
are many things happens and many things I learn that play back to my memory
as I stand in front for the last time. I leave traces on their hearts and
minds and I hope that it will lasts. I learned, changed, and develop and
that’s why I learned.

End
of Practice Teaching

Today was my last day of practice teaching. I do not know
what to feel. However, two emotions were at the top: happy and sad. I am
happy because it was my last day of practice teaching and I fulfilled it
successful and sad because this was the last day that I saw my students.
In my last day here, I was asked by my two students to act
as their sponsor for their investiture in the Boy Scout of the Philippines
and I accept it. I put their neckerchief at the ceremony. After the ceremony,
I went on to some of my classes and ask them check their attendance. As I was
there in their room for the last time, I felt sad and look in each corner of
the rooms because their rooms were ones been the classroom where I teach for
the first time as a teacher. When I was there in their room some of them asks
me to continue and extend teaching but I say to them again that it was the
end and we can avoid the end of a journey.
|
I observed today the method of cooperative learning
because through membership of the students to the Boy Scouts of the
Philippines. In being a member of boy scouts, students were able to interact
with other students and learn things that they could not learn inside the
four corners of the classroom.
|
I went on each classrooms, I look at each part of the
school. I think how this place molds me up to become a teacher that I wanted
to be. I also remembered my first day stepping at this school which first as
field study teacher and now as a student teacher. Every single thing makes me
feel that I Allan Christian A. Yco was now ready for the real battle as a
true teacher.
